Typically, February is a time for musicians to kick back and relax. But when you're one of the hottest festival style wedding bands in the country, there's no rest for the wicked!
Festival Folks’ very own Jamie Smart was asked by Hastings Fat Tuesday to be a featured artist this year.
Hastings Fat Tuesday music festival is the UK’s largest Mardi Gras celebration which showcases Hastings’ thriving music scene – opening its doors to a wealth of musical talent and music fans alike. Hailed as Hastings’ answer to SXSW in Texas, or Brighton’s Great Escape festival, Hastings Fat Tuesday celebrates its 9th year in 2018 (from 9-13th Feb) and is now one of the jewels in the town’s cultural crown.
Friday night saw Jamie play the prestigious St. Marys in The Castleopening for Skinny Lister who are about to embark on a tour of the USA. Jamie played a great set and Djs from BBC Introducing who were in the crowd added Jamies song ‘ Lucifer ’ to their BBC Radio drive time playlist.
Saturday was the Hastings Fat Tuesday Unplugged tour. 5 gigs in 5 venues in 5 hours, all completely unplugged. Travelling with the same banjo, acoustic guitar and double bass and drums that Festival Folk use on our wedding gigs we dashed from pub to pub in the pouring rain to play to all the excited festival goers.
Favourite pubs on the unplugged tour include The First Inn Last Out, famous for its very own micro brewery, and the Stagg Inn which was built in the 16th Century. 2 mummified cats which are framed hang on the wall in the Stagg Inn. The cats were discovered during repairs and the locals say the cats were part of a curse used by a local witch to ward off plague!
Jamie Smart and the Festival Folk band had such a fun time in Hastings. It was so much fun to play up and close and personal to all the festival revellers!
Thank you Hastings Fat Tuesday for a great weekend!
